The best F1 drivers in 2024
The 2024 Formula 1 season was intense and competitive. The drivers gave their all in every race, and these are the top five in the drivers' championship:
- Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) - Unstoppable and consistent throughout the season, Verstappen dominated the championship from the start, scoring key wins and proving why he is the undisputed champion of the category. His ability to stay calm under pressure and capitalize on opportunities was crucial in securing his title.
- Lando Norris (McLaren) - Young and talented, he cemented his place among the best. Norris was one of the season's most pleasant surprises, delivering strong performances that led McLaren to fight for important positions. His progress was remarkable and promises a bright future in F1.
- Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) - He excelled with his speed and strategy. Throughout the season, Leclerc fought some great battles and achieved several important podium finishes for Ferrari. His qualifying performances and ability to recover from difficult races cemented his position.
- Oscar Piastri (McLaren) - Lando's great duo had a great season to secure the constructors' championship lead. They secured their first two F1 wins and are poised to go for third place next season.
- Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) - He made a remarkable farewell to Ferrari, securing second place in the constructors' standings. Although annoyed by the way this stage ended, he was a leading figure throughout.
How did Checo Pérez fare?
Sergio Perez finished eighth in the standings despite not having the best season. Due to car issues, crashes, and numerous inconveniences, an eighth place finish for the Mexican doesn't sound so bad, although, given his ability and the incredible season he gave us in 2023, 2024 leaves us with a bittersweet taste.
Top teams in the constructors' championship
The teams also had a tough year, but only three managed to come out on top:
- McLaren - The dominant team of the year, Norris and Piastri managed to take many podiums and first places, making it very difficult for Verstappen for the first place and getting McLaren to take the constructors' championship
- Ferrari - Their strong performance secured them a competitive podium spot, with Leclerc and Sainz scoring key points in the duo's farewell. Can Ferrari challenge Hamilton for first place next season?
- Red Bull Racing - A very uneven team this season, with Max Verstappen scoring the majority of points and Checo Pérez unable to maintain his top positions to score in the constructors' championship. They still hold on to third place and are hoping for a better 2025.
